The Author

Like many Yorkshire-born people, Nick Laister spent many childhood summers in Bridlington, which is when he fell in love with the town and its various attractions. Nick still visits Bridlington on holidays with his own family, and retains a fondness for the resort that played such a major role in the development of the seaside amusement arcade.

Nick is without a doubt the most prominent planning consultant working within the British tourism industry at the moment and acts for many of the country's most famous visitor attractions. He is a Chartered Town Planner and Planning Director with RPS, the UK’s largest planning consultancy, and is involved in development projects across the UK and Ireland. Nick is also the UK planning advisor for several of the world's most renowned casino operators.

As well as his work within the tourism sector, Nick advises several blue chip developers on mixed use development projects throughout the UK, and for the past decade has been responsible for bringing forward the largest development ever proposed for Oxfordshire, the 3,300-dwelling Great Western Park urban extension in the south of the County.

Nick has appeared as an expert witness at several public inquiries and hearings, is regularly interviewed on television and radio and has written numerous articles for newspapers and journals. He has been invited to speak at a number of conferences on the subject of planning for tourism and leisure development. He also leads a campaign to save Dreamland, a historic amusement park in Margate, UK.
